Dental Nerve Injury

After the
numbness for dental treatment wore off from your lower jaw and lip, did you
have a burning, aching, electrical-tingling, or stabbing pain in your
lower teeth, lip or tongue that would not stop? You may have
unfortunately experienced a needle injury or possible
anesthetic-preservative injury to your Mandibular or Inferior Alveolar
Nerve (IAN) that supplies sensation to your lower jaw, lip and tongue. It
is estimated that 85% of injuries resolve on their own in six weeks. If you
have hurt longer than six weeks, the pain will probably not go away on its
own.
For many people
with this condition, they can often get temporary relief from the pain by
chewing gum, speaking or eating. As with other chronic conditions,
relief varies from patient to patient because the causes for the pain can be
varied. The earlier that treatment occurs following the injury, the better
the outcome.

Ernest Clinic offers a virtually
painless series of tests to confirm nerve injury. Treatment is then
determined by the test results. If you have exhausted efforts to relieve
your pain, we may be able to help you end your suffering.
